Overview

Research in the community ecology group, led by Fiorenza Micheli, focuses on understanding the processes and interactions shaping coastal marine communities, and incorporating this understanding in the management and conservation of marine ecosystems. We are currently working on projects investigating the effects of natural and human disturbances on the diversity and composition of rocky-shore communities of central California, examining the potential for persistence and recovery of depleted abalone populations, and studying marine invasions in a local estuary, Elkhorn Slough. Collaborative projects focus on the design and function of marine reserve networks in the Bahamas and along the Italian coastline, and on the dynamics of small-scale fisheries in Baja California, Mexico.
